From the outset, the FDT Group and its members worldwide have shared a common goal: Open integration of control systems and instrumentation in multi-vendor, multi-network technology environments, with the resulting benefits of freedom of choice, reduced integration costs and, most importantly, the advantages of continuous innovation.
The FDT Group is the established standardized architecture for asset integration, modularly built to change with demands for a “Connected World.” The organization is making the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Industry 4.0 a reality through a broad ecosystem of automation vendors. FDT® Technology is designed for the lifecycle of tomorrow’s adaptive manufacturing assets. It enables “plug and play” performance for automation systems, applications and edge devices throughout the industrial control sector.
The FDT standard is represented in the German Reference Architecture Model Industrie 4.0 (RAMI 4.0) as the device integration solution, and with the FDT/OPC annex, sensor-to-cloud, enterprise-wide connectivity is granted with seamless data communications. The objective is a fully enabled IIoT architecture supporting mobility, on-the-wire security, and comprehensive interoperability. This solution will also be platform-independent and deploy-able in standalone, client/server or cloud architectures.
