FDT Group Announces the Release of the FDT2 Common Components

Certified Software components enhance device development and ensures interoperability

Jodoigne, Belgium, 24 April 2012

The FDT Group announces the release of the Common Components for FDT2. The Common Components for FDT2 provide the majority of the software needed for implementing the FDT2 specification. Using Common Components allows companies to more efficiently develop FDT2 enabled products, allowing their developers to focus on unique, value added features in their own products.

The common Components for FDT2 will be available for use by the end of May 2012. “Our member companies took the initiative to produce these Common Components in order to more cost effectively, develop FDT2 enabled products,” notes Manfred Brill of Schneider Electric.“We have had 20 different member companies test the common components since 2011 and thousands of automated tests have also been executed. Strict measures have been taken to ensure quality assurance for FDT2 based products using Common Components.”

“We are very pleased to be chosen as the provider of the FDT2 Common Component for Frame applications,” says Volker Herbst of M&M Software. “The extensive testing of the Common Components will be a real benefit not only to the suppliers who use the Common Components but also to the end users. The FDT Group has always been focused on interoperability but these FDT2 Common Components substantially raise the bar on that commitment. Additionally, the Frame Common Component will be backwards compatible to support both FDT 1.2.x and FDT2 DTMs.

FDT2 Common Components will be available for DTM (device) development as well as Frame Application (host) development. Both the DTM and the Frame Application Common Components have been developed and tested together to ensure proper interoperability and compliance with the FDT2 standard. Certification of both FDT2 Common Components is expected to be completed in May. Common Components are immediately available for license.
